Support From Elazığ To Murtaza Ahmadi The Boy With The Messi Plastic Bag

Fırat University has started the Peace Ball Project, which was developed based on the volunteer of Assoc. Prof. Sebahattin DEVECİOĞLU, an academician from Sports Sciences Faculty,   giving away “Game Balls” as presents to children. Within this scope, Devecioğlu made a statement;


A “Peace Ball Gift Package” will be sent to Lionel Messi, who was chosen to be the best football player in the world and Murtaza Ahmadi, five years old and residing in Jaghori District in Ghazni, a city in the eastern region of Afghanistan, who went viral with the photos he shared on the internet and demonstrated his football admiration with the Messi jersey which he made from plastic bags. The gift package which is prepared in parallel with the project will be delivered by Mutlu GÜZEL, who is a teacher serving in Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.


The purpose of this activity within the project is to support the love of Afghan Murtaza Ahmadi’s sports and football love, contribute to fulfilling his dreams of meeting Messi. Additionally, with the cooperation of Afghan Football Federation (AFF), an effort is being made towards the meeting of Lionel Messi and Murtaza Ahmadi in Turkey.


Moreover, within the activities accomplished in the project, an additional campaign will be started to provide sports equipment to male and female children who are interested in sports in the region by creating an awareness about “Children’s right to play” and drawing the whole world’s attention and interest to Murtaza Ahmadi’s residing district, Jaghori.

I would like to express my gratitude to TIKA, who provided moral and material support to deliver the “Peace Ball Gift Package”, which was created in the framework of “Peace Ball Project”, to Murtaza Ahmadi, Tiryaki Sports Shop, Bildemmak Bilçağ Company, Turkish Life Magazine, dear press members, and organizations.


Peace Ball Project

The main purpose of the “Peace Ball Project” is to express that sports has no discrimination of religion, language or race, emphasize that sports is a shared value of mankind and ensure “ Peace, Friendship and Brotherhood” by sports.


Articles from “Rights of the Child” which went into effect in 2nd of September 1990 and signed by 193 countries;

  • Article 31/1 “States Parties recognize the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.”
  • Article 31/2 “States Parties shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.”

In addition to these articles;

Within the “Peace and Sports” understanding, a common goal which was accepted by International Olympic Committee and UNESCO, UNICEF, European Union, Sports Federations, Universities and Non-Governmental Organizations is; to achieve more accessible and sustainable sports on neutral and safe grounds, to provide development in underdeveloped regions, to eradicate poverty and inequality, to contribute to education, to convey sport’s role in education, health, social, cultural and economics to masses by encouraging lifelong sports and healthy life culture.”

Within the framework of the article 59 of Turkish Republic’s Constitution “The State shall take measures to develop the physical and mental health of Turkish citizens of all ages, and encourage the spread of sports among the masses. The state shall protect successful athletes”;
